I called to set it up and was expecting her yesterday afternoon. Then I get a weird e-mail from the Drama Girl saying that she's got pnumonia and cannot make it. Drama Girl and College Girl have the same first name and last initial. I had messages from both of them in my phone and set up the wrong sitter. I think I would have just wet myself if I opened the door and found Drama Girl on my front step instead of College Girl. Of course, Drama Girl standing me up just reinforces my prior opinion of her. Still, mommy fail.
Oh MrsK! Be kind to yourself - it was an honest mistake.
By the way, I agree with you not hiring the drama: sounds like a call to 9-1-1 waiting to happen.

O.M.G. I just interviewed a 20yo with greasy pink hair and multiple piercings who started the interview saying, "I'm 20. I'm not in school and I don't have a job so I don't do much. I mostly just hang around the house and sh@t." She went on to tell me about various jobs she lost after a week or so on the job. I ended the interview after about 12 minutes.

Did the mom's group have any suggestions or referrals? It seems like our mom's group is over flowing with great people that want to keep other children.

JEEZ! I didn't realize it was this hard to find a reliable sitter/nanny. I should have been charging more!

Oh god, I'm so screwed when we have to find childcare which I can't do until AFTER the match when I know where we'll live. GAH!

Wow... We looked for the grandmas and ended up with a winner on our first try.

I didn't interview any college or high school sitters, but I did get several emails from a high school girl basically begging for the job. She had all kinds of drama going on with her parents' divorce and could only babysit in her home, which is over 30 minutes away from us. She wouldn't take "no" for an answer, so I just quit replying to her emails. Poor girl, but no way.

Have you guys tried colleges? Like bulletin boards at local schools? We have had great luck with PT/OT/Nursing students. In Roch we found them by word of mouth but here I found her through SitterCity. But DH was on the look out for bulletin boards where he could post that kind of thing for me.

Just got an e-mail from care.com advising me that they have cancelled the pink-haired girl's subscription. Guess I'm not the only one who thought she was unfit.
