    My baby is gone!!

    Today was the first day of Kindergarten for Mackenzie and although I am enjoying the silence in the house, I feel guilty for enjoying it. I didn't even get to walk into school with her. They do a drive-thru dropoff/pickup method so there wasn't even time for a second kiss and hug. She has been excited for weeks but today she was a little nervous. I made Don miss his staff meeting this morning so he could help me see her off.

      Thanks Kris for asking. She was so completely funny. I picked her up and the first words was "Today was so awesome, and I'm not even worn out" Today wa a little bit different. As I was going through the drive dropoff/pickup she had a horrible scowl on her face and her hair was sticking up in all directions. I asked her what was wrong and she said, "school just wore me out". So much for the newness.

      On a different note, there seems to be a little boy in her class who is either autistic or slightly retarded as her teacher has explained to her that he some times gets confused and yells at people uncontrolably. To my complete suprise, Mackenzie seems drawn to him rather than annoyed or disturbed. This is a child I have only seen be compassionate towards bugs, snakes, marine life and such. She has drawn several pictures tonight for him that depict the two of them playing together and her taking care of him. I am amazed at her capacity for acceptance when it seems that she can't accept anything her sister or we as her parents do. Go figure...

        Congrats on a great start. My heart goes out to you for this bittersweet milestone.

        As an aside, I'm assuming that is a pic of the lead singer from MB20! Can I just say that you rock?

          Yes that is Rob Thomas from MB20 and my obsession At least that's how my DH would put it. I am planning my 6th concert trip this year before they finish their fall tour. Maybe more than 6 if I am lucky.

            Today was my baby's first day at daycare. She was only there an hour, while I got the classroom set up, but it was pretty heart-rending. She cried on and off the whole time
            Tomorrow I start actually teaching, so she'll be on her own
            I'm sure she'll make it through this adjustment ok - I just hope that I will.
