I have a friend who had a 4 year old hit her head on the bathroom cabinet. Couldn't tell if it needed professional medical care or if it could be taken care of at home. She had her oldest take a cell phone pic, text it to her best friend (my oldest) and ask if her dad thought it needed further treatment. M texted it to me. DH's phone was acting up so I had to call and describe the wound. One pediatric urgent care visit later and sweet little A got her first staples to the head. Love modern technology!Veronica

Like HouseofWool and Shakti already posted, this has been going on for ages, just in a different form. People used to ask their mothers, MILs, sisters, cousins, neighbors, coworkers, etc. There's always been misinformation and always will be. You're just getting more exposed to it because of the Internet.
I'd say cross that bridge when you get to it and don't over-think it.Cristina

Ha, I was warned NOT to post any "too detailed" (cervix, etc.) updates leading up to labor or I would be constantly harassed with "When is the baby coming" questions. Not that I really would anyway. I don't feel anyone besides my husband/midwife needs to know the state of my cervix.Married to a newly minted Pediatric Rad, momma to a sweet girl and a bunch of (mostly) cute boy monsters.

I find it very helpful when someone in the 'hood has a sick kid or if there's something going on that the other parents need to know. I don't need details but if someone's kid was puking all night and they're in the dude's class, then I'll keep a closer eye on things.
Also, if someone's kiddo has a broken arm or is dealing with something like that, I'll commiserate with the parent. and those parents with new drivers. Whew- I can't imagine.
