  • The Back-to-School bug thread...

Since school started in September, we have had two bouts of the stomach flu cruise through our house. Last week was something called MEA in MN....the kids had a 4-6 day weekend depending on the school they go to. I was all MEA = MEYAY! Woohoo, right? Wrong. Zoe had the sniffels which was no biggy ... but ... it turned into an ugly upper respiratory infection for Thomas, Amanda and I that has now settled as a little bronchitis for all of us ... not what I need. :/ Today, Alex is down for the count and is out of school. Andrew was coughing and sniffing as he got ready for school. Aidan complained of a sore throat as he left for the bus.

    Noooooooooooooooooooo.

Nasty! I feel your pain. I'm also working on a lovely respiratory infection myself. Only I can't blame the kids! Interestingly enough, it's WEAC here in WI this week (equivalent to MEA) and my sister has off of work so she was supposed to come visit. I felt bad, but I told her to stay elsewhere, since I'm not really up for entertaining anybody.

Hope everybody starts feeling better soon!
I'm just trying to make it out alive!

There's a vomit bug lasting 5 days (!) going on around here. It tapers out with post-nasal drip/cold symptoms and goes an extra 2-3 days. Gross...
Mom says strep is big again this year as well.
I have hand sanitizer, Lysol, and Cidastat in the house.

It's been utterly horrible. DD2 (3YO) brought home a cold with eventual fevers. She was up one night complaining about her ear, but that subsided. All the other kids got it to some extent. Then DW started with the cold and fever, and then I did. DW started complaining about her ear this past sat night, and eventually it got so bad that vertigo started and she couldn't stop vomiting. I got the ear thing on monday and it was extremely painful. We both went to the Dr. yesterday and got antibiotics (dr. said I had a "rip-roaring" ear infection) (plus anti-emetic for dw).
This is the first time an ear infection has crossed the child-adult barrier in our house.
        yuck.

Lovely GI big has been raging through the residency like wildfire. Several peeps have either been sent home or called-in sick (which NEVER happens, here) due to an inability to leave the can. It'a gross. DH is leaving for Cyprus today. Guess who started symptoms last night? Yup, the guy getting ready to leave the continent.

Won't he be a joy on the plane...

            (If they let him on!)

Nothing here, yet but it's still 80 degrees so the kids aren't as shut inside. (knocking wood) We were just attacked by swarms of mosquitos during the cub scout meeting and I look like I have chicken pox. Allergies are bad though- my eyes are itchy and the dude has a chronic sniffle. The aphids are swarming on the pecan trees and excreting this sticky clear 'droppings' that cover EVERYTHING. It's disgusting. We desperately need a freeze but that won't happen until January.

Immodium is working wonders, so far. Keeping fingers crossed.

A friend had 3 out of 5 kids + her husband down with that vomit bug. I felt so bad for her. Of course one of the kids was too young to be able to make it to the bathroom on time. She's grateful for wood and tile floors.
