  • Christmas Time Birthday Party

We all know how crazy busy the holidays get! A is "lucky" enough to have a 12/27 birthday.

So I'm trying to get her birthday on our calendar. We will have a small family party on the 27th since family will be here for the holidays but she really wants a friend party. We tried to throw her a friend party when she turned 3 in Rochester but we literally got like FEET of snow that day and only one friend came. I'm not going to do it at the house, I'm going to do it at a gymnastics center or a bounce house place or something like that.

So my question is should I do it early, like the weekend of December 15th or should I do it late, like the weekend of January 5th? Their school Christmas vacation is 12/19-1/2.

I know either way we're still going to run into family holiday plans but if it was you, which one would your kid be more likely to attend??

    I'd rather attend January.

R's birthday is on Christmas. We always do a birthday celebration in Christmas with family. But this June, I let him do a half birthday in the park with his friends and he loved it. My birthday is one week before Christmas and birthday parties were always so difficult. We would do mine early early December though. I'm not do any kid birthdays for mine around the holidays.

I think the half-birthday party sounds fun! I'd probably go for the early January party this year. December is so hectic, but then January is kind of a let down because there's often nothing to do.

*definitely* January. My sister (12/22) had half-birthdays a couple of years, but that's in the summer, so once they're school age, that's just as difficult because people are gone. Early January is the best option, I think.

Thanks gang, I'm kind of leaning towards 1/5 too. A summer party wouldn't have been an option this year because she doesn't have any friends yet

I have a early Jan birthday. Hard to always find different parties from yr to yr, but i always had a good turn out.

What kind of party is she having? January will work out fine.

It will probably be an activity based party, like at a gymnastics place or a bounce house place. I think she wants a ladybug theme.

K1's birthday is 12/16. That's already too near the holiday rush for a party. We do his either the first or second weekend of Dec. If you don't want to do A's party that early, I'd do it after the holidays.

And we do "half-birthdays" for both our boys' birthdays falls on the other's half-birthday. (June 16 and Dec 16). Every party celebrates both of them.

If not, try for Jan -- once you get past the 10th, that's when plans and people seem to be more available.

This is a great thread! I am doing our daughter's on her mid-December b-day but will need to rethink the date when she is school aged- I like the idea of January
