  • Someone forgot to keep adding prozac to the water around here....

The schools have gone nuts here.

I posted in the debate forum about the fact that the school is now limiting the number of calories a child is allowed to eat at lunch each day. I thought it was 800. It's actually 600.

Amanda got more than 700 calories today and was told she wasn't allowed to buy it. Keep in mind that she is skinny and also had an eating disorder several years ago that she thankfully has recovered from. The lunch lady said "I'm sorry, you can't have all of that" and Amanda said "Look at me. Do I look fat? I'm hungry. I'm taking it." and she walked off with her caloric contraband. Yowza. I think I'm going to spend a fair amount of time in the principal's office.

Zoe and Aidan go to the same school and obviously take the same bus to school each morning. Apparently, the planning was a little off and now they are having to send the bus out twice to get everyone to school. So. Zoe will get on the bus at 7:20-7:25 and Aidan will get on the bus at 7:40-7:45. HUH?

It's like the world is crazy....it really is.

Fall used to be my favorite time of year. Now I remember why I started disliking it so much.

If we don't *like* the decision, by the way, we are free to drive our children to school. And my take on it? Then they are free to count on my no vote for every levy, resolution and plea for cash!

    geesh.

    OK. Rant over.

That enrages me about Amanda!! Her response is excellent considering her history and some lunch lady shouldn't be a voice of "that's too much" in her ear. UGH. Any chance of medical waivers on that?

Schools are one of the places where it's become so obvious that common sense is just dead. This is ridiculous! I love the district we're in, but have seen so many things in good, bad, and in between districts throughout the nation that just make no sense. I also think our district does a great job of keeping home-school communication very open, which seems to be the exception in other districts, rather than the rule. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this nonsense.

that is insane! are parents protesting this? I would be livid! Your daughter handled it perfectly- you must be so proud of her!

It's hit the angry fb posting stage but parents here are downtrodden after having our Spring Break taken away last year behind our backs.

There are a lot of cranky parents right now!

I think it is time that the parents occupy Sartell Board of Ed! There is whole lot of BS flowing around there.

Time for me to start heavily considering homeschooling?
                *sigh*
Our state is a CORE Curric. state. My home state is adopting this way of teaching, and my mom fills me in on what it entails. Setting up teachers to teach to test standards, an dpunishing them if numbers do not reflect expected outcomes, makes me sick.
She taught at a Title-1 school for 18 years, and recently changed districts and schools (for other reasons). But, what about situations like that? How is that fair to the students who are already marginalized?

Google $60 million high school stadium. That's the high school my kids will never attend (though they could walk there).

Holy Shit. One of my kids is on a modified diet (for calorie control) and I would absolutely lose my shit if a school board thought they knew better than me how to feed her and how many calories she needs.

Stuff like this makes me fear for the future of our country.

I recently found out that a lot of smaller schools around my hometown are going to 4-day school weeks. Way to make sure that area stays in poverty... Kids from there had a hard enough time going to (much less graduating from) any college before!

I just want to say I'm extremely proud you have a daughter that stands up for herself!! Not all girls her age (or women my age) won't take no for the ridiculous answer that it sometimes is at these schools.
