chain letters?!

already?! AGH! This morning my 3 year old had an envelope waiting for her in the mailbox. It was a stinkin chain letter saying send these two kids stickers and you will get a bajillion stickers back in the mail. First of all, I am fighting a war against stickers in my house. I'm so sick of finding them in the laundry, in the baby's mouth, in barbie hair, on the walls, in the car, etc..etc..etc... And also, I'm not sure if this makes me a mean mommy, but I do not want my 3 year old participating in chain mail. I just think it's yucky.
So, I had to send an email to my friend telling her that A won't be participating in the sticker thing. I feel kind of bad...

Agree, that's stupid. A three year won't fully understand anyway and the parents would do all the work. It might be kind of need for a 1st or 2nd grader though.

I have had the same thing with children's books, movies, and recipes. I just ignore them. I have been big on the library as my property taxes and late fines pay for the place, might as well get all that I can out of it. As far as the stickers, I am right there with you- I hate them, and my youngest is 5. I find them. everywhere. Don't feel bad. Your friend doesn't have to scrape them off of bookcases, walls, the car, or find them in your child's poop. When they want to do those things for you then they can give them to your child. As for the argument "well they can use them for art," my response is usually "You mean art that will end up in the trash, because the paper is so covered with stickers I can't tell WHAT it is. Yeah, thanks but no thanks."

FWIW, we have stickers, but not a bajillon! Come on people show some restraint, a 3 year old doesn't need a bajillon. Now if a group of teachers were to do this.......

I got one for children's books and never did anything with it. I didn't mind sending 2, but felt bad foisting it on 6 other people. I have limited mommy friends!!

We got that too, last year for one of my kindergarteners. I set it aside with the intention of letting the mom know that I wouldn't be participating, and found it recently when I cleared out my junk caddy. Oops.

I hate stickers too, and that chain mail thing was too much work for me. Make copies of the letter, find addresses of kids we don't really know, buy stickers, buy envelopes to fit the stickers...oy. No. Thank. You.

I also get them and the only one I participate in are the recipes by e-mail. They are super annoying!

Ah, hells no! And here I just assumed my days of chain letters were long gone. Here's hoping I'll be spared this brand of BS with boys (pretty please(?)). Don't feel bad about not participating.

I remember once when I was probably in 2nd grade one of my friends slipped a chain letter under my door. Except it was the really ugly kind, like "if you don't send this to 20 friends you will DIE!" or something ridiculous. And my dad took the letter back to my friend's house, knocked on the door, ripped it in half and gave it back to her. And to me the threat of having 36 people send us more stickers is just a freakin nightmare.

Oops - bad mommy here! I thought it sounded like fun, so I sent it out. I got a few packages in the mail, and I figure if someone didn't want to participate, they'd just trash it. Hope I didn't offend anyone...

FYI, if anyone is naive and obnoxious like me and wants to participate... I just used Amazon Prime to ship a package of stickers. It was super easy!

I wouldn't do it. Mostly because I'd be concerned about protecting my children's privacy. Besides, I don't want a bunch of strangers sending mail, stickers, or gifts to my child.

Be careful. Any chain letter than requests anything of value, I believe, violates the federal Postal Lottery Statute (18 USC 1302). I doubt sticks as de minimis items like that qualify as having "value," but I would not get involved.

Huh? What's the big deal? Stickers are fun for kids and my 3-year old loves getting mail. We participated, and only got one pack of stickers back.
