  • Nanny Rates for Trip Away

DH has a conference in Vegas this spring. He had one last year and I bailed at the last minute because my parents couldn't come watch the kids. DH and I decided this year we are going to hire someone to stay with the kids. I have no idea what to pay her. We have three kids, and a dog (we might board the dog - haven't decided). She'll be home for the most part with the younger two all day, and the oldest is school aged. How do I determine a rate? Is there an app for that?

Are you going through an agency of some kind or will you be trying to hire someone you already know?

The family that I babysat, then nannied for in HS and college would pay me about $150/day plus food. So they had an envelope of money for things like pizza, meals out, movie, etc. Whatever was left from that, they usually gave me as well, but I never assumed they would. The had 4 kids, no dog, and the oldest was a Junior in HS (I actually taught him), followed by an 8th grader, 3rd grader, 1st grader. It was usually over the summer, and the kids had no responsibilities to be anywhere except the HS kid - who drove himself.

I would say $200-$250/day plus leave money in envelopes like GRU described.

I should add that the last time I did this was about 7 years ago So I agree with the figure above!
