Please help! I don't know what to get a one year old. The party is Aug 3rd but I'm really bad at buying gifts for the 1 - 2 age range, I've found. The older ages, I can do that, but something about that 1 - 2 range really throws me. Helpful tips/suggestions? Great gifts your 1 y/o has received that they've loved? Links helpful

They're not technically age appropriate, but my kids started loving Matchbox cars at that age. Especially the ones based on characters from the Cars movies. Wheelies cars are more age-appropriate if you don't want to risk it. My kids also love hats and the metal-looking keys from Target.
ETA - Sandra Boynton books and touch & feel books are also great!Laurie

Most toys have age ranges on them, these days. That's what we've gone by every time we've given a 1yr old a gift, but they tend to be the slightly obnoxious noisy ones. Board books are always good too.Allison - professor; wife to a urology attending; mom to baby girl E (11/13), baby boy C (2/16), and a spoiled cat; knitter and hoarder of yarn; photographer

I would typically opt for books, but our shower gift to the mom and dad was a huge "starter library" book basket - all in all about 15 of our childhood favorites. I wanted to go the toy route this time. But clothes are also a good idea - I haven't given him any clothes yet, so this might be a good opportunity to snag a cute little number for him and throw in some type of age appropriate toy!
I took a look at those Little People toys and the sound farm one looks so adorable!Wife, support system, and partner-in-crime to PGY-3 (IM) and spoiler of our 11 y/o yellow lab

They like them. We are big LP fans here. We have two different farms, a circus, a jungle, a school, dollhouse, airplane, helicopter, school bus, two garages, the Batcave, Noah's ark . . . we are a little bit obsessed. They are nice because they can use the pieces interchangeably and they encourage imaginative play. A lot of the people I know say they are saving the LP toys after their kids are grown for grandkids. That said, I think we've hit our critical limit and the LP are taking over our house. I'll probably be looking to unload some of the smaller sets soon.Wife and #1 Fan of Attending Adult & Geriatric Psychiatrist.
