My kids LOVE their Little People and always have - they have several sets and can mix, match them, etc. They're easily appropriate for a 1 year old because they're way to big to choke on.

Lots of LP love over here, too! The farm was the first thing A got - just after her first birthday.

Oh - musical instruments are (and have been) big over here! Egg shakers, maracas, drums, xylophone...

Another LP vote. DD consistently plays with that thing FAR longer than any other toy. And it's creative play. We'd love to have more LP stuff but don't really have the space.

I need to get more little people sets. I let N open the Halloween one and it is always everywhere. FYI the roller coaster is 50% on the Fisher Price website.

Thanks for all of these tips and suggestions! I wanted to get something that I felt certain would be a big hit, instead of wandering the toy aisle at Target or Walmart just looking for something that says "ages 1 - whatever"! Seriously, so helpful!

I found the farm with all its pieces at a resale shop. I've had great luck seeing intact LP sets used. They're worth it even new but always nice to save a bunch as well!

I've had a lot of luck buying them at yard sales. I've even found some that rare or are out of production in perfect condition (grandparents got them for when the kiddos visited and they were hardly touched). If a piece like one of the dolls is missing, it can usually be found on e-bay for about $3.
