Play kitchens--- my nearly 12yo girl asked me to get hers down from the attic this week so she can play with it again and has been!!! The easy bake oven with a real cookbook http://www.amazon.com/Baking-Mommy-C...easy+bake+oven

was a huge hit and we saved so much money not having to buy the bags of mixes.

This year we are doing the following:
18yo boy- He's asked for a couple of books. He needs a new jacket.. I'm not sure what else.
16yo boy- This is his year. He has the complete set of the original Star Trek series, a Civil War era gun an probably a new jacket
11yo girl- clothes since she has outgrown everything... I have no idea what else and her birthday is a few days after Christmas. Dad is buying her a telescope.

I'm looking forward to being surprised this year. For the past few years, I've told DH what I wanted.

Is anyone looking for a dollhouse? This one is still pricey at $119 but it's half off and it looks really cool. Hard to go wrong with kid kraft: http://www.hayneedle.com/product/kid...b0192bb7988ada

Also, Amazon.com has American Girl minis (6" dolls) with books for about $15. I'm trying to decide if it's a good deal. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/159...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Get him an itunes card. gift card to rock climbing, etc.

A lot of them are doing the loom bracelets too. All the boys at our school are making them. I was completely annoyed by a mother with two boys at Joann's who took the last black bands.

ear buds are a great gift for this age. They all use them and lose them. The run around $20, but you can find them on sale. This is one of our generic party gifts for birthdays.

Yes to the earbuds. My daughter just replaced hers (again) and got some high end Skullcandy ones at Marshall's for $7. She was so excited. I recommend discount shops for those over Target, etc. They are always better priced at Tjs or Marshall's.

My BFF's 8yo daughter is getting an AG doll for Christmas. She's getting Caroline. I was going to buy some outfits or accessories but I'm now overwhelmed and don't know what to buy. My friend says it doesn't have to be the AG brand; her daughter won't notice. I know that when I was 8yo, I would have wanted the frilliest pinkest princess/ballerina dress available. My friend is not really into the whole girly/pink thing (but her daughter is).

I'd love to get something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Furniture-Hang...d_rhf_se_p_d_4 or a couple different outfits but I was hoping to keep my gift around $30. I'm an AG novice. Please educate me.

A would love to have one of those for her AG doll. We usually do the Target brand, Our Generation, for the "generic"

A couple other things I'm considering:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER (less expensive, has doors. Is it better?)

                          http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=AJ6A9YDD7X8EI with http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=AJ6A9YDD7X8EI

                          or

                          http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Personally, I would have loved a doll bed/cradle when I was little but I'm not sure if this one is any good.

For a clothes holder I would get one without doors. That looks like a nice bed and the bed is definitely the piece of furniture A's uses the most.

My DD uses her doll bed a ton, too (I lucked out at Pottery Barn outlet), but also loves the doll carrier from Target for when we travel.

So, do I go with the dress rack or the doll bed? I wish the dress rack was long enough to be used as a doll bed as well but it looks like it's about 17" and the dolls are 18", right?
