So as not to derail 13's thread

A takes private lessons. She loves them and really is learning a ton. H will start them this summer. I hated Mommy and Me classes because I felt like I could do it myself and the writhing, crying other kids freaked A out, and with 2, those classes were out anyway. Our sitter and I will be taking the girls swimming this summer. I'd like to take them more, but I can't prevent both of them from drowning alone.

Our lessons are run by the former university swim coach (he retired after like 35 years as coach). He pairs the kids with instructors based on the two - not based on the schedule. So when I signed up for lessons, before he told me the availability, I had to tell him how old A was, her swim experience, etc and then he gave me the openings that have an instructor appropriate for her. They actually run the lessons out of a hotel pool Aubrey also gets the bonus of the older kids and other instructors who will praise her if they catch her doing something great - and she loves the attention. The biggest deal breaker for us with other lessons was the water - our community pools are the "homes" for the high school/competitive teams, so the water was always freezing and A hated that.

The private lessons (so far) are great - the instructor has a complimentary personality to his, and she gets him to do things he wouldn't do for me.
I know in a group setting, he wouldn't be doing much and would not be as focused as one on one.

A will do swim team this summer at the CC we are joining, its actually just pre-competitive b/c she's not old enough but the consistency of practice multiple times/week I think will get her over the hump. She's doing great but can't get the swim, breathe, swim so she freaks out if she's in deep water b/c she can't stand up.

R will do private lessons at the same place b/c they don't have lessons for his age and I think he's ready to be one on one. I'm hoping by the end of summer they'll both be much more comfortable in the water.

Lessons here are terrible compared to everywhere else we've lived. Fortunately, a Goldfish swim school just opened. The kids all take there, and the focus is only on safety and technique. They love it and I do too!

We are starting this summer with a lady who does it out of her home.
