  • Stopping bad habits.

This is a little embarassing, but my 5 year old had recently begun...putting his hands in his pants to..well...hold onto himself...He does this all the time..in public, at school How can I get him to STOP this???? My husband just laughs and says boys will be boys...but I'm so mortified by this behavior.

HA! I hear you on this one, Kris! My son's kindergarten teacher even asked me a few weeks back if he had a rash or something because he is always messing with himself. I was mortified! We were already constantly reminding him about it. We did share with him that his teacher had noticed.....and it doesn't seem to be as much of a problem now.

Just keep reminding him.....tell him people don't like to see that. We made Joel go to the restroom for a while every time we observed that behavior, even if he said that he didn't have to go. That may have helped him get a little control.

On the whole, I think Thomas is probably right in that this is just one of those "boy" things.

Nice to know my 3 yr-old kid isn't the only one doing this. I try not to get too worked up about it although it is embarrassing. One time I asked him, "Hey, Daniel, what's going on down there?" to which he answered, "Nothing, mom, I'm just making my peepee big." Like, duh, ma.

Our three year old daughter does this. She is ALWAYS doing it. I usually tell her to stop it and go put some underwear on. (she is going through a no-clothing phase this winter) I guess if she had underwear on she wouldn't be so tempted to play....
