    Spill 'em

Zoe had her belated birthday party yesterday from 3-5 at a trampoline place. By 5, all of the other parents had arrived...except for one girl. Her dad didn't show up until 5:15. This presented a bit of a problem because I was paying for this party and it was specifically from 3-5. Fortunately, they were flexible and let the girls continue jumping while we waited. I was standing there waiting and finally the dad showed up. He did not address me in any way, so I introduced myself to him. No apology, nothing. He pretty much grunted at me and then kept watching his daughter. I thought it was really rude. I turned to my kids (and the 1 I brought) and told them the party was over and we had to stop jumping and get our shoes on. We went back to the party room and got read to leave. When we left, the dad was still standing there letting his daughter jump ... and the party was OVER and the party girl was leaving the building. Weird!

Oh, dude — I've got a shit ton of rude parent stories.

One gal asked me to watch her 1 y/o one morning a week so she could volunteer in her other kiddo's classroom. No big deal until she began not picking up her kid for hours after when she said she would and asking me to babysit for all sorts of other reasons, day and night. I finally stopped watching her kid after an episode when I specifically told her SEVERAL times that I needed her to pick up her kid by X time because I had an appointment to make afterwards that I couldn't miss. She was two hours late and totally didn't understand why I told I would no longer be watching her kid. Her response was, "Oh, you had something else to do?" Yes, bitch — that's why I said I had an appointment and needed you to be on time.

Another parent was shocked, SHOCKED, when I was pissed that they not only didn't pick their kid up on time from a sleepover, but had the balls to get pissy with me for making them leave the movie they were in to come and pick their kid up. They were ALREADY 3 hours late. They actually went to the movie after the time they should have picked up their kid. I was livid.

I really only have one... So far.

Someone I knew on an acquaintance level only kept pushing for a play date (I don't do them, unless I'm really comfortable and it's a 1 on 1 scenario).

One day, I get a desperate call: her sitter fell through, it's her anniversary, and she needs someone to keep an eye on her son while she gets a haircut.
I reluctantly agree, meet her at the mall (where salon is), and say I will watch both kids at the indoor play area while she gets it cut.
When I arrive, I'm told it will take 20 minutes. Over two hours later, I am hauling my kid and her screaming toddler all over creation, looking for the salon.

I waited another 15 minutes once I found it (she wasn't answering her phone), and she emerged with EXTENSIONS.

To boot, it was a Friday evening and I then promptly spent 45 minutes in traffic trying to get home with my son.
