  • First Birthday Party

I'm trying to plan E's first birthday party! It's going to be relatively low key, just at our house with family and friends, with no gifts requested. I'm debating starting it around 11 or 11:30 and feeding people lunch, or starting it around 1-2 and just having snacks and cake. Earlier probably works better for us right now, since she's taking 2 naps around 10 and 2, but I have no idea what her schedule will be like in two months, and I know she'll be off that day with all that's going on anyway. For those of you with experience, what tends to work better?

I guess is go for earlier but it may be a crapshoot. Good chance she will be overwhelmed no matter what but it will still be fun

We had to do late afternoon because my parents couldn't fly in until that morning. We just didn't even try to do second nap. He was totally overwhelmed, but the first birthday party isn't really about the baby anyway, right?

I would save enough time for her to get a good morning nap in. If you can time it between naps, great, but I'd make the one good nap a priority.

I honestly don't remember. I think I planned the parties for times that the boys usually had playgroups or whatever. So, between naps. And had the parties close to home so they could nap.

We didn't do anything for either girl beyond just the three/four of us, but for bday 2, we did 10:30-12:30 and served pizza. For bday 3, we are doing 9-10:30 and having breakfast food (but I assume most will eat actual breakfast when they wake up). I think both my girls are "best" in the morning, so that's what we try to take advantage of.
