MrsK try Magic Treehouse series with them. C has been loving it and the books are very adventurous without being too mature. Plus, they all fit a basic pattern (they go somewhere in the tree house) which is easy to understand.

I wonder if I should be stopping to summarize, etc. I knew some things would be over her head but I figured that was ok and it's more like osmosis but I wonder if she would like it even more if I did that.

I ended up reading the whole My Fathers Dragon last night. It was a fast read and really moved along. We borrowed the book with all three stories in it so will start the second tonight. O really like it.

      Ragweed was also a hit.

Finally peeked at my Goodreads. DS is almost exactly 2 years older than O, so you can look back 2 years exactly to see what I was reading aloud around then. I really need to get this caught up, it doesn't have any of the books we've been reading since Christmas: https://www.goodreads.com/review/lis...shelf=children

Something interesting I noticed was that when the kids were small they didn't mind the vocabulary going over their heads and listening to longer/complicated sentences. (Well, I say over their heads, but they surprised me by how much they caught -- I always had DS "catch me up" when we'd re-start a book the next day, and he could always hit the high points.) But as they started reading on their own, it seemed to work out best if the books were just a smidge above their reading level. That way after enjoying the book and getting to know the plot, they could pick it up on their own again later and stretch their skills.

We are currently reading Jenny and the Cat Club. I love it. O likes it but I think I like it more than him. It's five stories about Jenny a small black cat that lives in nyc, her neighborhood cat friends and their adventures. We should finish it tomorrow.

Before that we read The Littles and The Miniature World of Marvin and James. The miniature world is really short - it has a lot of pictures and large print. O LOVED it. He's had me read it to him 4 times already. It can easily be read in one 20-30min session.

Not sure if I mentioned it but we read My Fathers Dragon and the two accompanying stories. O really liked them a lot. Great stories!
