  • Steroid nasal spray for children?

Alex has had many, many sinus infections this last year. Sometimes we treat them and sometime we don't...depends on how bad they get. The always show up as nosebleeds though...He gets terrible nosebleeds!

We were at the pediatrician yesterday and she suggested considering adding a steroid nasal spray for when his nose is really bad....

I feel really iffy about that. Anyone out here have experience with this or any thoughts?

How old is Alex? I can't remember! Oh well. Steven, the sickly, had chronic sinusitis throughout his 2nd year. He started on Nasonex (a steroid nose spray) when he was about 18 months old. They thought that, along with continuous doses of Amoxicillin and Augmenten-- he was on antibiotics for about 3 months straight) may be enough to knock out the sinusitis. Turns out it didn't work, and he ended up getting his adenoids out at 22 months and ear tubes put in. That surgery seemed to solve the problem. If I remember correctly, there was controversy over the nose spray b/c it was not FDA approved for children under 3 years old. He didn't have any trouble with it, but it didn't do the trick. Anyway, that's our little anecdote. Sinusitis sucks!!! But now he's so relatively healthy, it's great... He still has to take 2 meds regularly for his asthma, but he's been steroid free for about 4 months at least!
