  • Baby boy diapering question

This is new territory for me. I think Mitchell should still be in newborn diapers (he probably only weighs 8.5-9 pounds or so) but lately he keeps peeing up the side of his diaper. Do I need to be doing something different when I change his diaper so the pee isn't somehow escaping (the diaper isn't soaking through, it'll be barely wet sometimes)? Or does it sound like he needs to move up a size? I'm used to little girl parts where the pee just naturally flows into the diaper...

    Sue,

Sometimes it helps to fold the top of the diaper down once (towards the baby) before you tape it. It will form a little flap that traps the pee if it goes straight up. See if that helps.

      Sue,

It might also help to point 'it' downwards when you are changing him....when you are using the wipe to clean him up, etc, just try and orient it in the downward position That might help...

I agree with Sally and Kris. You shouldn't have to change diaper size until he is pooping up the backside!

A friend of mine just had a baby boy three weeks ago and also had this problem. She said aiming down seemed to help her too.

Thanks you guys--I'm following both suggestions and yesterday there were no major "leak-throughs". Sometimes I feel like I'm dealing with a whole 'nother species!
