  • Family Activities

    Zoe and Aidan are 11 and 13. We play Clue as a family once a week. That's it. The two of them fight like cats and dogs.

    Any ideas for family outings/activities on weekends that don't involve much walking?

    Kris

    We tend to play a lot of board and wii games in our house too. Maybe have everyone write down ideas of things to do on slips of paper and stick them in a bowl and draw out of it weekly?

      What about card games? Spoons or spit? Or Apples to Apples?

      I can't wait until my kids are old enough to play games!

            My kids are younger, but we love board games, nerf or watergun battles, movies, miniature golf, bowling, going to the arcade (I don't love this, but my kids do), WiiU tournaments, and "Camp-ins" which is basically sleeping all in one room with kids in sleeping bags.

                We love playing Jengga, the block tower building board game. But usually, we just go out and walk to the beach with our dog and they always have a blast. Being active is really helpful for kids, constant exposure to stimuli helps them be smarter.

                    We've been playing a lot of board games, monopoly and Catan. My kids bicker the whole time. It's normal.

                    August = kids bickering

                    We watch too much TV. We love family movies. Then they bicker about where each person sat last time and who's touching who. There's no winning

                    I'm setting up more play dates to distract them with other people's children.

                      I got a fire pit that we use at least once a week. It has had mixed results. They do like lighting things on fire and eating smores.

                      Recently, we've been on a card kick and even have had neighbors and grandparents join us.

                      We have been binge watching the Middle this summer. Just finished season four where Axl and Mom bickered constantly his senior year and then she full on ugly cried during graduation. Ahem. No really, my oldest kid is All and my middle is Sue. Kind of freaky.

                      Once or twice a year for Easter or Christmas, I buy an enormous Lego set that sits on the formal dining room table and we will take turns working on it. (That is the most use the formal dining room has gotten).
                      In my dreams I run with the Kenyans.

                          We were watching this all last year with our youngest. He is not a big talker, but he would come up from his lair (the basement) pretty much every school night and ask if we were going to watch an episode. ❤️ Somehow we got started on Friday Night Lights this summer, but we’re about done with it, and I hope we will get back to The Middle!

                          We are also big movie fans, both in and out of the theater, and we will all tune in when the Colts or Pacers have a big game.
