  • Tailoring - toddlers clothes

I feel crazy asking this - first because I can't even sew a hem, but also because who tailors kids clothes?

Anyway, my kids wear a uniform next year. They are chucky (one is chuncky - the other isn't really) and so I almost always cuff (or roll under) their shorts and pants. Apparently not supposed to do that. I should be sending them in well fitting clothes. Ugh. So I guess I'll need to hem shorts and pants.

I do I just throw the pants on them and try to make a super quick chalk mark? Then take them somewhere and ask them not to cut them at all so it can be adjusted?

Are these insanely stupid questions? Lol. They do not cooperate when it comes to getting dressed, so I know it seems silly, but I'm going to have a seriously hard time pulling this off.

    Any tips?

I cannot take seriously the idea that they would expect a well tailored outfit on a child under about 6. Have these people ever met a child?? Plus, they'll outgrow it basically immediately. I'm guessing this is more in theory than in practice...

But I could be wrong. Lord knows it happens all the time.

Haha, that is my thought. Being expected to tailor toddler clothes for anything but a big event is insane. Heck, I'm even stuffing my 3 year old into a sort of fit tux because I don't want to buy a new one for an upcoming wedding.

I say don't do it, and if anyone says anything, stare at them and ask them who their toddler's tailor is?

        Not stupid!

I have to cut a good 3-4" off of pants for both my boys and machine sew new hems (between 2T-6). 😓

One of the women that works at my nephews day care hemmed his pants (just so that it could easily be let out) without my sister asking. Lol. He is a beefy kid too and so I guess his pants would unroll and he would fall.... so I know it happens. I just can't sew, so I don't think I could pull it off.

And they did wear tuxes once - I absolutely used some double sided tape. They were infants then though. That wouldn't ever hold now.

Maybe one day they will sleep later and stop being such complete terrors. Probably not... 😩

I guess I could see hemming pants. We usually roll C's up, but he hasn't been walking since he's in pants, so he just wears his shorts down to his ankles now. If he was wearing uniform pants every day, I'd probably have them hemmed. If you have another pair that fits, you could take those in with the long pair, otherwise marking them yourself is probably fine. Definitely make sure they leave enough fabric to be let out later.

Ah- duh! Great plan! (Not sure I actually do have any the appropriate length, but some close - for the slim kid at least. I don't know what kind of tall slim babies they have in mind when they makes these... but I suppose there are some out there).
