  • Parents. Ugh

I’m so sick of kids’ parents. At work, I usually find that it’s the ones who lie on the floor on pillows eating potato chips during a session that can’t understand why their kid is acting out. But in my personal life, I’m 🙄 too. Today I volunteered to supervise Zoe’s class’s root beer float sale. I did all the groundwork and arrived ready to go. This sign up was online and only 1 person could register. I got there and another mom was there. She didn’t want to be denied the experience. This woman took charge and ordered me around the whole time, especially when school officials/the teacher were within earshot. I tried to blow her off and do my thing/talk to the kids, but it was awkward. I’m so pissed.

    I need an island.

Hahahah! Pull up a chair and bag of kettle corn. I could talk fu#%|d up parents all day. Mostly from work, but crazy ambitious school moms too.

That school mom is nuts. She didn't want to be denied the experience so she denied you your experience. The school should have gently asked her to volunteer some other time.

          OMG.

I'm so sorry this happened. I want to pull up a chair to the "other parents suck" conversation! Seriously. I'm amazed that I can still be amazed, frankly. Everyone is crazy. The difference between my first child and my last child is that I don't try to join the mom social network. I'm friendly at drop off and pick up. I let my kid pick his friends. I have my own friends, thanks. I've been here before and know that this little cache is all going to blow up anyway, so I'll just sit back over here.

I love my little district but JFC, parents will eat young children to get their own child ahead. By high school, parents have dropped out and getting loaded on the town while Jr. stays at home hot boxing in the garage every night with some friends. Literally I know two separate high school seniors wh o are essentially living in a house without a parent because mom or dad is living in another home with new spouse. Then there are the parents in the school where I teach who I'm not sure even exist because multiple attempts to contact them about their child's inability to pass Third grade reading guarantee go unanswered.

Yes, this post is judgy as hell. Mea culpa. Out of all the times I have been made to feel like shit because of some perceived shortcoming, I'm over it. People are truly effing crazy. This is never more apparent than when childrearing is the topic of conversation.

Would the moderate middle please stand up? Anyone?

Class volunteering is very intense here, too, although I’ve heard it calms down as the kids get older. If DS1’s teacher puts a volunteer sign up sheet with one name per shift, 3 or 4 parents will scribble in their names on a single line. Then it becomes awkward when you arrive to volunteer and there are so many people there to help out. Our teacher also had to ask parents to stop sending in class snacks and supplies because she has too much. I think it’s a good thing that so many of the parents at our school want to be involved, there are certainly worse problems to have, but it can become a bit much.

I avoid the PTA. I donate supplies and money, but the volunteer scene is hyper competitive and run like a mean girls clique in high school.

Our new Pre-K seems to be mellow, thank goodness. I sign up for party and special event help for DS2’s class, but DS1’s school? No thanks. 😇

Yep, yep, yep. Last year my oldest son’s class had a self-elected class Mom who was supposed to coordinate parent volunteers for inidividual reading and special events. It wasn’t until the middle of the year when the teachers figured out she never was offering volunteer opportunities to other parents - she was keeping them all for herself while complaining how over-burdened she was. Weirdo.
