Parenting Techniques

My husband and I have different parenting styles. He's more of the 'chill and cool' parent, while I'm the 'strict and uptight' mom. There are instances when we fight each other whether to allow our kids to do something they want (e.g. going to parties, going on dates,etc). This also leads to conflicts in our marriage. How do we settle this, without straining our relationship?
