I know I am crazy, but I’m getting a little worried about this acute flaccid myelitis virus I keep hearing about. Anyone have some insight that would make me feel better? I know it’s been around for the last few years, but this is the first time I’m hearing about it... and three year olds are so gross. One of my kids locked the railing at the aquarium for no reason over the weekend 🤢.

Try not to worry. It’s still very rare at this point. There’s nothing you can do other than practice hand washing with the kids. Make sure they are up to date on other vaccines. There is no current vaccine or treatment for this, so just, I don’t know, pretend you never read about it?

Most of the cases of AFM have been mild and have not had long lasting or permanent sequelae.

If we worried about everything, we’d never not worry. When I was studying pediatrics and embryology, it amazed me that anything ever goes right.

    Hugs and breathe.
