  • Brigham is 1!

Brigham turns one tomorrow at 1241 pm! Time has flown by... so here's what he is up to-

    - first haircut last month
    - walking at 10 1/2 months
    - running
    - climbing
    - says about 6 words- Mama, Dada, Ena (Emma), Mo-mo-mo (More), Num-num (food, eat), uh-uhp (Up),
    - signs- all done, up, milk, eat, bath, wash face (rubs his hand over his face in a circle), more. Man signing has been a great thing for Brigham, not a lot of frustration when it comes to determining what he wants.
    - can feed himself with a fork and a spoon- although not perfectly- he starts off with the fork or spoon, and then moves to using his fingers- so about 50/50
    - loves table food, eats anything we put in front of him that is from our plate. No more baby food.
    - understands a lot! follows simple directions- give kisses, sit down, put the block in the bin, come here, etc.
    - still nursing about 2-3 times a day. Likes cow's milk- he snagged Emma's cup a couple of days ago, and of course I freaked out. Matt calmed me by saying- "One, there are no milk allergies in either family, and two, it's not like on Aug 10th that is body is going to go 'poof' ok I'm ready for cow's milk, give it to me; a couple of days will not make a difference." So far no allergic reaction...

I will probably continue to nurse Brigham until he is 15 months old. I had made that goal before he was born, then after he was born because there were some struggles when he was 7 mos (ie- biting, refusing to nurse), I reevaluated and said 12 months. Well we are at 12 months, and it's going pretty good. He's really only nursing morning, sometimes after his morning nap (depends on his mood), and then before bedtime, won't nurse any more than that. If I try to nurse him more he bites me to say "Hey mom, I said no more!". I am going to start nursing him before bathtime so when it comes time to cut the bedtime session it might make it easier on him.

One reason I am continuing to nurse him is because he is still tiny. I take him in on Thursday, and I know he isn't ready to turn to FF, so it means we have to find a convertible carseat for him. I leaning towards getting the Britax Marathon or Roundabout, which ever will fit in our car the best.

He loves Emma (his Ena) more than anything, and idolizes her- whatever Emma is doing Brigham has to do it too. Emma goes to a nursery during Sunday School at Church, and the children start attending when they are 18 months old. I was passing Matt in the hallway at church, and we stopped and talked. Brigham said "Mama" I took him from Matt. Brigham looked at me with a concerned look and said "Ena" "Ena" I told him Emma was in nursery, and he would see Emma after church, and he started crying, and said "Ena, Ena".

Emma is a fireball. I will post some of her mischeviousness in separate posts- "Cooking oil, rice, and flour." She's doing great. I keep saying I will potty train her, but I haven't done it. We've been busy with the zoo, aquarium, Science Center, Wading pools and whatnot, as it's 99% sure thing we are moving in June '05, and we want to take advantage of all there is in the area. Anyway, Emma tells me when she has pooed. My goal is by the time she is three to have her potty trained. I think once all of our summer fun is done with it will be easier to stay indoors and concentrate at the task at hand. Besides who knows, maybe Brigham will want to join in- he pats his diaper when he wants to be changed.

Matt is applying for jobs, and we are going to Boise, ID for the first "informational interview." in a couple of weeks. Essentially to see if it is some place we would like to move to.

As for me- starting to teach stamping classes. I am having a blast with my new found hobby. I chopped my hair off last month, the first time in over a year that I have had my hair cut. I can't remember the amount in inches, but I know it was a enough to donate to "Locks of Love." When I get a chance I will post a picture of before and after. I am thinking next time about getting highlights put in to boost my drab brown color.

Well I should head to bed- both kids wake up at the crack of dawn...

    Crystal

PS- Someone requested a list of finger foods. I will get that up in the next couple of days.

Wow, Crystal! I can't believe that he is 1 already. Sounds like you all are doing well. It's amazing how quickly they change.
Is Matt looking at a job in Boise? We stopped there for a night on the way to OR and enjoyed our evening there.
Enjoy the summer and all the fun places to visit. If you are having a heat wave like we are, I hope you are staying cool!

        Thanks for the update!

I can't believe that your baby is 1! Didn't you *just* deliver him?

Good luck interviewing! I'm only slightly jealous.

Boise would be about 8 hours from either family, so not too far. If we do live more than 4 hours from family we have decided that there needs to be an airport close by.

Nellie- It has been warm here, but not near as warm as it was this time last year. Funny thing- I remember the what the weather was like on both times I gave birth- clear skies with snow on the ground and was that beautiful sunny clear sky out with snow on the ground when we took her home. Brigham- it rained, but just as he was born the rain stopped and there was a sun break. (sniff sniff) I am getting all misty-eyed.

Kelly- I feel like it was yesterday that I pushed him out. He is becoming a little boy now. I am going to relish in his baby/toddlerhood as much as I can. We want a third (possibly 4th, we want to see how having 3 is), and that can't happen until after Matt is done with residency.

                Crystal -
Congratulations!!! That is one amazing year. By the way, I am SO jealous that you are looking at Boise - I grew up 2 hours from there, and am dying to get back there!!! You will LOVE it there - (the wards are GREAT!!) Some of my good friends live there, (one was my roomate at BYU) - if you get more serious about moving there, I could give you their numbers and they could give you more ins and outs of the neighborhoods.

Good luck on the job hunt, I am also insanely jealous that you are at this stage right now!! Take care and have a great day!

Crystal -- did you have a web link for the stamping stuff? I think I remember seeing some alphabet stamps that Bryn would really like.
