  • Disclosure Statement--Truth in Parenting

If parenting came with a mandatory disclosure statement, some of the following warnings would be included:

    1. The nicer and/or more expensive an outfit is, the more likely that it will come into contact with human body fluid.

    2. The more sanctimonious you are about childrearing before you have kids, the more humility you will experience.

    3. An average day in parenting will include a wide range of emotions, all at once. You will be overwhelmed by the primal love for your child and yet occasionally you will feel compelled to jerk the living daylights out of him/her, all within a short time span.

    4. There are hidden charges and fees, everywhere, all the time.

    5. Parenting is hazardous to your waistline and both pocketbook.

    6. Perfect Strangers will take it upon themselves to dispense unsolicited critiques and advice about your childrearing.

    7. The world will suddenly seem like a scarier place and you will find yourself reining in your free-spirited ways in light of the magnitude of your responsibility.

    What else should be included?

Something about memory loss being associated with the number of children you have.

OH so that's it! I was wondering what was going on with me - in the past week I've locked my keys in my car once, put on a sandal and a shoe on my daughter's two feet once, dumped the egg in the pancake batter without scrambling once, etc etc etc
I was afraid it was early onset alzheimers.

Just when you are breathing a sigh of relief after conquering a trying phase that your child has gone through, they will move on to a new phase, that is just as difficult, and equally annoying.

Going to the grocery store with a toddler who hasn't yet napped or is hungry is strongly discouraged.....
