  • Breastfeeding questions part deux

How exactly do i wean? She doesnt seem to miss them if I skip a feeding but she never turns it down when it is offered. We are hoping to start production on baby #2 this summer and I think i might like to nurse til we get ready to try. Is it ok for me to go to work for 8 hours and not pump without risk of drying up?

I always started cutting out a feeding one bit at a time. If you do stop pumping, your supply will begin to diminish, but you will still produce milk. Your body is really in tune to these things...more nursing means an increase in supply and less nursing means less...I sometimes continued producing milk for many, many months after my kids were completely weaned.

With my first three, the last feeding I cut out was the bedtime feeding...but this time around I have bedtime down to a science and Aidan goes to sleep without nursing (yeah...this will make things much, much easier). Start out by giving her a sippy cup with one meal...and then later begin offering her a sippy cup during the day with water/juice in it. I think that weaning can be a very natural process...

    woohooo..trying for baby#2 soon

Sounds like great advice...About the pumping....I think I quit pumping when she was around 10 months old...of course, I still had a good supply because she was the ALL NIGHT NURSER (which is why we quit co-sleeping ) If I remember right, she really just gradually started to prefer the sippy cup. Best of luck to you! I'm jealous about the #2 thing, but happy for you!
