  • Losing my mind....

The other day I caught myself laughing out loud at Oobi. It was the one where they're making a parade, and Uma says "uhh, Kako....All Day....Haven't Got..."

I have no idea what/who you are talking about, and I get the sense that's a good thing!

I recharge by surviving on 5 hours of sleep most nights so I can have many many hours to myself when the house is *quiet*. I feel like I'm wasting it if I'm unconscious. Any way to carve out a small piece of 'you' time everyday?

OMG, I just laughed out loud. I have NO idea what you are talking about.....all I can say is: Put down the remote and step away from the televison...sloooowly.

Time for you guys to start taking some walks in the great out doors, fluffhead! There is nothing worse than realizing that you are singing along to "I love you, you love me, we're a happy family" and discovering that it makes you feel happy. Get moving...no more tv this week!

Wow - I can't believe you guys don't know Oobi. In any case, the tube is only on for about an hour per day, but we've got the On Demand thing, and my daughter always wants to watch the same episode of Oobi, and each time it's on, I seem to read deeper into it. It's really quite hilarious. Or has my mind turned to oatmeal?

Never fear, Fluff, we are watching Oobi right now as I type this. I get a kick out of it occasionally, too. We watch it on Noggin, and the shows on Noggin are interspersed with little music videos for kids......those songs have become some of my favorites! My all time favorite kids show, though, that I will watch even without my kids, is Little Bear. I think the stories are funny and I love the classical music they use in each episode. I got hooked on it when my nine year old was two, and almost eight years later, I still enjoy the show. I think I would secretly like to go live in that world. Now who needs to step away from the tv?

...has my mind turned to oatmeal?
I'll have a bowl, please, no cinnamon, but lots of sugar.

We were just watching Oobi this weekend, and as a family we were all caught up in the dismemberment of Oobi's car by Uma....tragic.

...now I have the theme music stuck in my head....'we've got a lot to see, we've got a lot to do'....aaahh....

Is oobi the kids shoes where the characters are people's hands with faces drawn on them? If so, I've seen it once and would love to be the genius that is probably making a fair amount of cash off of such a simple idea. What grossed me out when I watched it, though, was they had a foot with a face drawn on it. For some reason, I thought that was gross.

I think I remember that one - it was supposed to be a disabled kid with whom Oobi was playing.
The show tends to drive you up the wall after a while.

My daughter likes to watch Noggin but I don't think I've seen this one. I'll keep an eye out.

Take heart, fluff, I had a Lionel Ritchie song (WTF?) stuck in my head most of the day and....sad to say....found myself singin' along sometimes. Fussy (teething?) baby....not enough sleep....brain turns to mush.

This is slightly off topic, but still in line with the losing your mind due to children's programming...

The other day, I was in the minivan, and I had the Wiggles playing on the CD player--I was singing along and after a few songs, I stopped at a red light...and realized that I had dropped my son off at daycare ten minutes before--I think that's a sign that the Wiggles have some kind of subliminal messaging that makes you listen to their music even if your kids aren't around...I would give anything to not have "Hot Potato" running through my head all day.

DH and I did that same thing last weekend. We had an entire day to ourselves (thank goodness for grandparents!). We jumped in the car, carefree as could be, and then realized as we were parking at our destination that we had listened, quite happily, to DD's CD of kids songs the entire way.

I do that all the time! I'll be singing "bubble gum stuck on the bottom of my shoe" by Jim Cosgrove and realize that it's just the baby and I in the car!

I've given in and put kids music on the mp3 player so my son can listen to it while on long car rides and I dont' have to. I forgot to change my playlist one time and was listening to it at the gym...and I didn't even notice.

been victim of riding in car without kids and listening to their music without realizing it!

I have several thoughts on the subject / s:

Oobi annoyes me, but there's any number of Pixar movies and other Noggin shows that I do laugh at. I will say, though that I try to take advantage of TV time & get other stuff done, so haven't fallen victim to that one too often. *Certainly doesn't mean my mind isn't turning to oatmeal* For example, I have MANY opinions about Dora, starting with the fact that she really needs more supervision! I mean, where are her parents while she's galavanting around the world????

Music-wise I try to find music that will amuse the kids while not making me have an overwhelming impulse to drive my car off the road. Our latest finds are They Might Be Giants "NO" (no means no, no no no), and Laurie Berkner's (from noggin) latest album - but the title escapes me. Fun songs w/o chipmunk-like-nasal-sounding voices.

My boys are 3 and 2, so I'm usually just trying to keep the ongoing Thunderdome under control.
