  • Portable car seat recommendations

I have a couple trips coming up that might require a car seat but really shouldnt involve too much car activity ( mexico and san francisco yay!). I was thinking of getting a portable car seat and was wondering if any one had any thoughts on them. They are so small and compact but they make me worry too. Here is the link--

Have you considered renting one from the car rental place? We did that for the trips we made when Tim was a baby. Actually, the ILs did it, so we don't know how much it cost.

You could contact the local fire dept that does carseat safety checks and see what they say.

here is a page with lots of links on it regarding carseats

We arent renting a car either place, and might not even be in a car, but I wanted to have one just in case. Eopinions only had one review, and the site listed above didnt mention it.

We used to have two of these...I didn't even know that they made them anymore!!! When we had them they were also supposed to be safe for airline travel for children and we used them on the plane too. I'm not sure how well they would fit at age 1...you'd have to try it out...but we were really thrilled with them while we had them. I don't even know what happened to ours.

I say go for it if they aren't too expensive..

We use two of these (for our two kids) instead and it works GREAT!!

This enables you to check your stroller and use this as both car seat/stroller in airport. Also, it's not something you take on and off if you don't want to. It stays on the carseat. CAVEAT -- you need a Britax in order for it to work.

This is yet another reason why I should not have cheaped out on the Britax. I wish to heck I had bought one on a daily basis.

We used one of the more expensive versions for our trip home from Russia, it converts from a car seat to a stroller to an airline seat, it was easy to maneuver, and you can convert from stroller to car seat with the child still strapped in.

              I LOVE it.

I found it on eBay but it's for sale through the SkyMall catalog, too. When I get out to the car, I'll look at the website.
