  • She went!!!!

In the potty!!!! I nearly fell over! My little 21 pound, 19 month old peanut peed in the potty chair tonight while I was getting her bath ready! I recognize that there will be plenty of accidents/mishaps along the way, and I'm still going into this very relaxed, but WOW! I was so pleasantly surprised. I am sitting here fantasizing about life without diapers!!! Any hints/tips you guys have as far as proceeding would be appreciated. I guess mainly consistency is the issue? Do I have to get her a toddler bed now, or can she stay in the crib? I don't want to rush anything if I don't have to.

As the mom of a 15 month old who is STILL not walking, I dont have any advice but did want to say WOO HOO! The thought of no more stinky diapers is so awesome!

That's a great start! It might still be a while before it all clicks for her but having a potty chair out will help keep the idea going.

re: the toddler bed, I think we moved to that some time after 2 yo. Her crib converted to a toddler bed so we used that for a while and then moved to a regular toddler bed to free up the crib (well in advance of baby's arrival). The containment of a crib is sure nice!

Consistency is key. We are potty training Brigham (20 months) right now, rather Brigham is doing it on his own. I guess he has discovered independence. :roll We have Brigham wearing Pamper's Feel and Learn Diapers. He is about 25% of the time making it to the potty, but as each goes by he progresses more. I didn't do pull-ups with Emma, rather just stuck her in her underwear or plastic panties, but this time I don't have the patience to do that much laundry.

Emma was potty trained about 75% of the time within 3 days, and within 2 weeks we were accident free. I think a lot of it had to do with her age. She is almost 3 1/2 yo, and goes on her own- wiping and everything. On occasion we have to help her, ie- overalls. Brigham I think it will take a bit longer, but we are starting somewhere. I am really in no rush at the moment. I am trying to do the same things I did when we potty trained Emma- making sure he goes on a regular basis- when they are first starting it takes a while for them to recognize "Oh it's time to go" especially when they are busy playing.

As far as the crib- we transitioned Emma, who didn't potty train until she was 2 3/4 yrs, to a twin bed at 16 months, because Brigham was going to be born in a short time. Anyway, I wanted to keep Brigham in the crib as long as possible. Well..... that new found independence I mentioned earlier shot all of those plans out of the water, as he figured out how to climb out of his crib. He is now sleeping in a twin bed, and loves it.

Whoo Hoo! Amazing how we can be so thrilled over another person's bodily functions.

I am hoping Henry trains easier and sooner than Tim. We couldn't tell at all when Tim had to go, but Henry is like a book, stop, squat, grunt, make faces, start whining until we change him. Tim just couldn't recognise the signals until he was just over 3 yo.

My only advice is let them lead, be consistent, and if either of you are in tears, its time to step back for a month.

Wow, you all have prodigies! Potty training wasn't complete until 3 years old in this household. My son couldn't be bothered. I'm impressed.

I second what Kelly said! It hasn't even occurred to me to try yet with Aidan I guess I just figured he'd be like all of my boys and wait until he was 3 to finally get the idea!

Congratulations...I'm crossing my fingers that she keeps it up! I know my daughter was trained before her older brother.

Well, so far it's a "no go" (ha ha)....but that's ok...the one time was enough to heighten my hope for the future! Plus, she still likes to sit on the potty without her diaper (without ANYTHING on, for that matter! ) Hopefully like somebody said, it will just "click" eventually. I hate wrestling her to change her diaper!! I just use that as the opportunity to ask if she wants to sit on the potty, and hope for the best!

Emma didn't potty train until she was almost 3. So Brigham wanting to use the potty is foreign to me, as most of my friends who have boys don't potty train until 3-4 yrs. We're to about 75% of the time, still hasn't clued in about pooping.

Oh well.... taking it in stride. I should see this as good thing, maybe he will be out of diapers before the new baby comes.
