My 4 yr old son loves to pretend he's various superheros, and then assigns all members of the family their characters (i.e he's Buzz Lightyear, Quinn is Woody, I'm Jesse and dh is Bullseye, or he's Elastigirl, Quinn is Dash, I'm Violet, and dh is Syndrome). It's funny (although sometimes irritating when he won't respond to "Jacob", or if you speak to him and he says "Say My Name" (which takes me to a different place).
The problem / funny is that when he wants to change characters he says "okay, now we're going to be a new family", and has taken to telling people he's meeting that we're a "new family". My kids don't look like me (I'm caucasian and their dad is east Indian), so people really think he's telling them that we are a "New Family". It's truly funny -- nothing would be wrong if we were a newly created family -- but this is happening with preschools I'm touring, babysitters, etc. (not to mention pretty much everyone I speak to here is "new" for us).
