I am no potty training expert - it was torture w/DS #1 and I'm not looking forward to it w/DS #2 (been putting it off, actually). Most of the people I know who successfully trained early have girls - boys just don't seem to care! I also read that the sit down is better for teaching boys, so that's what we did. Once he was a pre-school though the teachers at the JCC put a stop to that. They told him that only girls sit down to pee -- I was kind of annoyed, but there are worse things.

My sister is currently training her 3 year old and Rachel has a small child's potty in the bathroom.
She did both number #1 and #2 in the little potty and was so proud of her accomplishment that she carried the entire thing sloshing all over the carpet in the living room to show her mom!!!
