Did she just let them sit in the car, or did she rub them in? Wont they stain? My mom says the same about vinegar.

For the coffee grounds, I believe she just lets them sit. I could ask though.

In the emergency room we use fresh coffee grounds placed around in bowls to help with the disgusting smells!!!!

I'm not sure how well it works, but we do use this. It is usually too busy to notice.

the best way to get "nasty" smells- vomit, blood (as in spilled meat juices) in a car
I'm glad you put in that qualifier --I would have wondered about your Mom!

I put that qualifier in only because as I was reading my message I knew people would be thinking "uhhh Crystal, what kind of woman is your mother in law?" :>
