DS is learning how to write and read phonetically. His teacher has instructed us to encourage him to hear and replicate sounds without worrying too much about the spelling for right now. This week he has been working on his family tree which looks something like this:

    Me: Cade
    Birthplas: Oho
    Momy: Cle (Kelly)
    Birthplas: Oho
    Dade: Shan
    Birthplas: Oho
    Granma: Joode
    Birthplas: Oho
    Granpa: Donld
    Birthplas: Tenac (Tennesee!)

Other places of interest include Indeana and Kentuce. I think that he has passed hillbilly spelling 101!

I think that this underscores the rationale behind using both phonics and whole language in unison!

Timely posts! Our kindergartener came home with a paper of (nearly) perfect ABC's...then at the top he had added, 'Rit my ABSees'

My great grandfather's in Oklahoma would be so proud!

So funny! Makes you realize how screwy the English language is.
