  • what were the big hits?

so what toys have been the biggest hits so far?

We got Caribou for the boys - it's a board game from Crainium geared for 3+ and they have LOVED it (and can do it themselves). They've also loved V-Smile (2 joysticks, thank you), and the Gallactic Heroes Millenium Falcon (geared for 3 to 8 year olds). They haven't slowed down enough yet to check out the books ...

We gave Anna a baby that she takes *everywhere*. Santa induldged Bryn's wish of another baby stroller (play stroller) for Anna except they both want the new one.

We also got a Cranium game -- Balloon Lagoon -- and that has been a big hit. And it is better than Candy Lane. Or I am just saying that because I haven't played it 100 times yet.

The Barbie house, that's pretty much all they've played with so far. Mitchell has been carrying around all of his new trucks, and has been especially fond of a picture of a forklift in a book his grandparents gave him. I see construction in his future.

My B/SIL gave Nikolai the doctor Elmo and he's been running around taking Elmo's temperature....(didn't really want to encourage medicine as a career path, but watching him with the stethescope in his ears is just too cute!)

and the grandparents got both boys (mine and my nephew) the radio flyer trike bikes and they LOVED them. They propelled themselves all through my parent's house.

Plastic toy dinosaurs from Discovery Channel are getting a lot of wear and tear. And, my three year old got the Little People castle sets (all five of them ) and is in heaven because she finally has a toy that her older sisters want and will play with her for hours with it now.

Perfect gifts for my son were huge LEGO sets that take forever to put together.

My 7.5 year old nephew is a very...pampered little boy with pretty wealthy relatives and parents. So his gifts were innumerable. But the ones that made him particularly happy kind of surprised me. Yeah, he was pretty stoked about Playstation 2 (the only thing he asked for, other than "a bell from Santa's sleigh"). The giant Lego set was also a no-brainer. But he was to be found playing with his electronics set late into the night. The mechanical dinosaur I gave him had a false start as he looked in the box and asked, "where's the controller?" but even though it just walks around on its own, it was part of every game he played that day and the next. When he opened the book "Dragonology" he squealed and jumped up and down. (Apparently they've been reading it at his daycare, it's a gorgeous illustrated book with lots of fascinating detail.)

As he left for a trip with his family, he sought out his new set of Chronicles of Narnia books, and took the Magician's Nephew with him.

(Oh, and he walked around in the hooded sweater I knitted him a couple of years ago, which was like a Christmas present to ME! )

The best gift the boys got.....the older two got laser tag from some friends of ours, and then my stepmother/dad got them the same set, so now up to four people can play, which will be awesome this summer. They have really enjoyed it and look hysterical running around with their goggles and earpieces on. They also got the game Nintendogs for their Nintendo DSs, and they are having tons of fun playing that together. Nathan's favorite gift was a bounce and roll bull's eye game, but he got another game for his v-smile (which was a big hit when he turned four in Sept.) and that has been a close second. We haven't opened gifts from DH's side of the family, though, so these rankings are subject to change!

There were to big hits this year. The first is a set of dress up shoes and the second is a desktop computer my FIL got for her. He's a principal and his school was replacing computers, so he was able to grab one for $10. Pretty amazing that last week it was being used in an administrative office, this week its a toy for a 2.5 year old. She LOVES it, and I am blown away by how much she can do.

                            Biggest hits...

The 9 year old LOVED her new moccasins and said quote:
"I Love presents from my mom, she always knows just what to get me!' OOOOH warm fuzzy all over!

The five year old is a little harder but she really loved this Sky-Dancer toy, (which I had never heard of). I must say it's pretty cute and actually flies too.
