  • Zoe or Zoey?

They both have the same meaning: "life"

Which spelling is...prettier? I can't decide on the spelling.

I like Zoe but...I think Zoey would be easier pronounced by most people. I'd hate to have her go through life telling people it's "ZO-EY not ZO.." and then have that "What an unusual name!" conversation.

      Hey Kris:
Well... In Germany I've seen and heard the name (which I love, by the way!). They pronounce the name with a "ts" for the "z" and write it with an accent aigu over the e in Zoe, which I think is a really nice spelling and makes up for the harsh "ts" sound.

We put an umlaut over my Zoe's name. I like it sans the "y". Her name is so short that she demands those two dots be over the "e" because they are unique (and, in her mind, special).

The only people who have ever had a problem with Zoe's name are native Spanish speakers who can't pronounce the "z" sound properly. It comes out like an "S" or even a "J" sound. I actually chose a name that some of my husband's relatives cannot seem to wrap their tongue around!

But, the vast majority of people who read her name don't have any problems....
