  • Deprogram in Progress

My in-laws were here for a long weekend. I am having to deprogram my kids after they leave. Probably nothing new to you all. However, I am finding it really irritating. My 4 yo was screaming about going to bed and saying she misses my MIL "so much". I said, "Why, because she lets you do whatever you want?" Yes was the reply.

I appreciate my in-laws being an extra set of hands so I can get some rest, but it drives me nuts that by the end of the weekend my MIL acts like she knows my kids better than I do and tries to be their mother when I am in the room. She doesn't do that with my SILs. She called today to tell my kids that she bought them yet another toy and wondered if she woke up looking for her this morning. Unfortunately, they did not. I sound petty, I know.

Sounds dreadful. (and no, you're not petty!)

My very own mother got up from the dinner table to take Nikolai downstairs to play with the 'downstair's toys' rather than make him wait so she could eat with my Dad and me.

She actually made my dad bring her meal downstairs to her.

Yikes, like that EVER would have happened to my brother and me.

When my MIL stayed with our kids, she stopped at the chi-chi chocolate shop on the corner every day after picking them up from school. They were veeeeery dissappointed when Mommy returned. Since they don't spend that much time with the kids, it wasn't so bad. We did have to deprogram the candy filled, late bedtime stuff. At least I let them choose their own outfits, though.

      Not petty at all, BTW.

Nope, not petty at all! I usually have to deprogram my kids as well after a fun-filled couple of days with the in-law's. What, you mean we can't have cookies and candy for breakfast, and juice all day long to the point of getting diarrhea???
