  • Hearing Aid

We got it yesterday morning. I had to take DS to daycare right after the appointment, so we didn't mess with it too much yesterday. Two days a week we go to the Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for a speech and sign communication group and speech therapy. We put ithe hearing aid in when we got there at noon and it didn't come out until I put him to bed tonight.

Huge achievement for the first full day of use. In the communication group, they sing some songs, like at the begining of the class and at snack. Usually James signs and sings, but today he just cocked his head to the side as if he was noticing something he never knew before.

Obviously there is still a ways to go before I can give a full report, but it was an encouraging first day with a few touching moments

Great! My neighbor's little girl just got a cochlear (sp?) implant in January. It's been really amazing to watch her progress and her improvement in speech. She's profoundly deaf in one ear (where they put the implant). Originally her other ear reached "normal" standards with a hearing aid, but that was deteriorating as well, which is when they decided to do the implant.

She's good buddies w/my younger son, and I love watching her tell him off in sign.

I hope the hearing aid continues to go well for your son.

Awesome! and watching the wheels churn must be an amazing experience.

Now if your son could give my husband some advice- like "wear the thing, it helps."
