  • Two Tomorrow!

Hard to believe! I remember last year we were out with friends because we didn't even have a court date yet. I was a mess (which explains the colors I picked in my house, I could only deal with cheerful, happy colors!). Here we are a year later, and he's running around my house in his robot jammies.

Our bigger celebration will be the "Gotcha Day" anniversary. (at least for the three of us) I was reading a book about adoption (ok, that's the understatement of the century, I read every book I could get my hands on) and since Rick is adopted I ran a lot of stuff past him for his input. I was really surprised when he agreed with a story that one woman wrote about how birthdays are actually kind of depressing for many adopted kids because a vast majority were also given up on their birthdays. (Nikolai was- I have the paperwork in his birthmother's handwriting) I had never really thought about it. So, I think we'll go low key for the birthday stuff and party like it's 2006 on 4/15. (court date anniversary). Of course we can stretch it into 4/29 which was the day he and I returned from Russia.

In any case- he's ours and he's TWO!

I can't believe he is two and that all happened a year ago. You can make it a month long party. Woohoo, Nikolai! :ra:

Anna has robot jammies too. They're her favorite.

Happy birthday season! I love the Gotcha day idea. Very thoughtful. I'm sure Nikolai would appreciate his BD party each year, but it shows great compassion that you see it's a double edged sword. I bet it will be a comfort to him growing up to know that Dad was adopted, too.

That is fabulous! So many reasons to celebrate, and the extra celebration of the "gotcha" day will help to reinforce to him how much he was truly, truly wanted.

Happy, happy birthday AND gotcha day. You are all three very lucky and blessed to have found each other.

I love two year olds. Threes and fours......not so much but really, all ages have something precious about them (says the woman who has yet to experience the teenage years!) Enjoy!

                    Happy Birthday Nikolai!!!
What a great idea about "gotcha" day, it would never have occured to me that the actual birthday might be kind of depressing, but it makes sense.
