Mitchell is sucking his thumb to the point of injury. The skin actually looks like it is starting to break down--it is bright red and coming off in parts. I'm not sure what to do, I can't get him to keep his thumb out of his mouth. I can tell it hurts him, but his way of comforting himself is to suck his thumb so the vicious cycle continues. Any suggestions? I hate to introduce a pacifier at this point (he is about to turn 2!), but he needs to give his poor thumb a break.
