  • Girl name

It sounds very sweet - and evokes a 'southern hospitality' in my mind. Frankly I think a name like Annabelle needs a long, girly middle name like Elizabeth. Is Lucy just Lucy, or is she Lucille? Annabelle Marie or Annabelle Lynn (going for one syllable here) just wouldn't do it for me.

She could choose to go by Anna, or Belle, or Bella ... lots of ways to work with it.

I like Annabelle and I think it goes with Elizabeth very nicely.

I love Annabelle! It is a sweet name, and I agree Elizabeth would be a great middle name.

I like Annabelle and don't think it would be hard to grow into--sounds professional already to me. I like Elizabeth with it, as well.

I think Annabelle is great though I am partial to the Anna part of it.

I love Annabelle as well and you can always call her Anna or Bella/Belle for short. What a beautiful name!

I really like Annabelle Elizabeth, and I agree with everyone who said if you want it shortened, there are a lot of pretty ways to do it. But, I have to say I like Claire better, but I'm biased. We named DD Claire.

My only caveat would be that the last name probably needs to be one-syllable, or maybe an iamb (two syllables with the stress on the second).

Sounds like it's growing on you!

Along the lines of what Alison said ... sometimes people just seem to string together the worlds longest names. My cousin's last name is Simanaitis, and both of them had first and middle names of 7 letters or more. Another friend of mine whose last name is Espensen considered naming a boy Spenser ... I pointed out that this child would most surely have a lisp and would never be able to say his name. Fortunately she had a girl.

I'm sure that once your little girl is here your mother will love whatever name you choose. We had so many people shoot down our name choice, but it turns out that they now all love the name because it is OUR little boy's name. I have decided that next time we'll keep the name top secret till the birth certificate is signed.
