as a U5 (under 5) soccer coach!
Today was Nathan's first game, and his coach sent out a mass email yesterday saying that she had unexpectedly had to have her wisdom teeth removed, and wouldn't be able to coach on the field today. She asked if someone would volunteer. I flashed back to when I had my wisdom teeth out, felt sorry for her, and emailed back that I would do it!
It was a blast. I know very little about soccer, although my older boys have been playing since they were four so these little guys/girls and I were well-matched as far as our knowledge about the game. I do know quite a bit about dealing with little ones, though, and that was pretty much all that was involved. I had one little girl who was too shy to play, a boy who tripped everyone (on purpose) and/or grabbed others and pushed them down, and I called one little boy "Zelman" for about 10 minutes until I finally heard his mom call him "Jeremy". I had asked this little boy several times what his name was, but he was very shy, had a soft voice, and *I think* a little trouble with his Rs......so Zelman is what I got from him! DH said he didn't hear me call him that, so hopefully no one else did, either. I am SO not athletic, but I managed to run backwards and stay out of the kids' way without falling on my a**, so I consider it a triumph. I am actually thinking about volunteering as an asst. coach (other teams have one but ours doesn't) but I think I may go lie down until that feeling passes.
After the game was over, I went home, changed clothes, and left again to go get the cake for my oldest's bday party. We had cake, opened presents, and watched Ice Age 2 with 9 other 11 and 12 year olds, as well as our younger two, at a local move theater. A good time was had by all......DH got called for a delivery as the party was ending, so the boys and I are home chilling out.
I'm tired.
