  • Junie B. Kristen..Barber Shop Girl!

For those of you familiar with Junie B. Jones, that title should ring a bell.

Anyway, I did the whole home hair cut thing with the kids this week and......I totally screwed up Finny's hair She has been growing it out for 2 years now after she messed it up by cutting it herself...and with one little snip of the scissors I cut 3 INCHES off the back...I ended up having to trim it all down to that size..and her bangs are too short and crooked. She went in to Thomas to show her what her mother had done to her and he almost fell off of his chair....

Anyone else cut their children's hair? I think my days as the barber shop girl are numbered!

We bought clippers at Walmart because the local kids' salon charges....hold on to your seats....$14.95 per cut!

So we placed our two year old in his high chair, turned on the Wiggles, and turned our living room into a Marine Corps barber shop. My dh, the pediatric surgeon in training mind you, cut not just one, but both of his ears! His excuse is that his patients will be anesthized (sp?) and less squirmy. :rolleyeyes

I don't know what to do now. The little guy freaks if we even talk about haircuts, which is somehow sad, funny, and sweet in the same instance. He has this outrageous double cowlick that makes his hair on his crown stand straight up on end. (Think Dennis the Menace.) My husband, a baldy, opines that we should just be thrilled that he has hair and not to worry about the style!

I guess that we are doomed for a few more bad hair years!

LOL, I would freak out too if my parents had cut both of my ears!!!!! $14.95 for a little boy's haircut?
Kris, I would splurge on the haircut for Finny, it really does take a girl longer to grow out haircut mistakes, and little girls are really sometimes mean to one another. A boy's screwed up haircut is probably not even noticed by the other boys at school. Good luck to all of you, thank goodness those days are past for me (I did screw up both of my daughter's hair when they were little, but only once)

Ha ha. These are such funny stories! I remember that my mom was forced to cut my hair one year - I had long hair below my shoulders and I was wrapping it in one of those curl brushes (is that what you call them? the round ones?). Well, it was stuck! She had to cut the hair off right above the brush. Eek!!! Then in 7th grade, I decided that I needed a perm! I would NOT have it any other way. Can you say OH MY GOSH! It was absolutely horrid. My hair is so incredibly and naturally thick that a perm just sent it flying out for miles! But you can always count on your parents to tell you that you are the most beautiful girl that they have ever seen in their lives!

Kris, I agree with Luanne - spring for a "real" haircut for Finny. Girls can be so nasty sometimes!

          Kris-

My best friend was supposed to 'trim' my hair and all of a sudden she stops and says "Oh my God, don't look". Her mom offered to take me to a salon to have it fixed. I ended up going eventually and have never had long hair since!

I laughed at Kris and Kelly's haircutting stories! Been there, done that!!! I considered buying clippers until Russ made me look at all his school pictures growing up. His hair was SOOOO bad and, of course, his mother cut his hair. We decided, even with only having boys, to splurge on haircuts. I am just not talented enough to pull it off!

Claudia, I laughed at your story. I did the EXACT same perm thing. I have really thick hair and got a perm. I swear my hair stood out a good eight inches on each side all over! It looked horrible! Another time I got gum stuck in my hair and my mom whacked it off right at chin length after it had been past my shoulders. Sigh ... oh the memories

Sigh...I'm just not talented enough to pull it off either....Her hair is still shouder length...so it's not a total disaster...but you can TELL that I did it :/

We used to take them to get their hair done, but it seemed like most of the cuts ended up looking pretty uneven...I figured I couldn't do worse myself..but I guess I was wrong!
