  • At what age?

My daughter is 6 and is in the first grade. This summer, one of the little girls in our neighborhood who lives nearby starting coming over to play on the swings. They became good friends, and have started doing the "come over to my house" kind of thing.

I feel akward. I don't remember doing anything like this in the first grade?? I'm not sure. For example, today they got off of the bus together and then the little girl invited her over (the mom said that my daughter is welcome anytime). I let her go fro 30 minutes and had to go and get her after 1 hour 15 minutes because she got too wrapped up in playing.

Am I doing the right thing by letting her go on these 'play dates' or is it too soon?

    Kris:
I think it is WONDERFUL that Finny has a little friend! How neat for her! I have an absolutely horrid memory so I can't remember at what age I started having girlfriends - but I think around first or second grade! I have photos of us playing dress-up and all of that kinda stuff! I think you're doing great - as long as Finny seems to enjoy going over for a playdate, I would let her! I do remember that I was very anxious about overnight trips but I think afternoon playing is harmless and actually wonderful!

      Kris-

that's awesome for Finny! I had a built-in play date bcause my mom babysat my best friend until we moved when I was in 2nd grade. Once I met my friend Leslie in 4th grade though- the rest was history! We're closer now than ever! Maybe Finny has found a life long buddy.

I know my friend's children (the one's I babysit) do the going to each other's houses after school thing. Usually for snack and playtime and then they come home to eat and do homework.
