I think this baby has reflux, he spits up a lot and it smells kind of stomach-acidy. Also, he gets super cranky after spitting up and I think he fares better if I elevate his head after he eats. The question is, if I can kinda sorta control it through these methods, should I pursue getting him on meds?

IMHO, if your baby would be happier more often on meds, talk to the pediatrician about it.

Very second hand information, but a friend's daughter had reflux that was fairly bad and they were concerned about damage to her esophagus. I'm not sure if that is common or just because it was so severe in her case? Happy ending, cleared up with medication. So, I guess maybe worth just checking out to see if it is reflux and to consider medication if it is needed to prevent damage.

I would agree with maybe putting him on meds. Jack was a spitter, but our ped told us that since he never seemed to be in any pain or discomfort about it that it was nothing to worry about. We were told to keep him elevated at a 45-degree-angle for about 30 minutes after feeding to help with the problem.

Interesting....Aidan had reflux and we were sort of told to try it w/o meds and do all of the other things.

Zoe has reflux (even comes up through her nose) and there was no mention of meds.

I guess it all depends on the doc?
