  • Bloody noses

I was wondering if anyone's kids have had problems with recurrent bloody noses. I know they are usually no big deal, but my four year old has been having them REALLY frequently, like every other day. WE went to an ENT that said his nose looked really dry and to put this nasal saline gel in 2X a day. So far it is not really working and I am worrying about it. Any tips...Oh, and it is really humid here, so I can't figure out why he'd have nasal dryness in the summer?! I am usually not a "freak out" about medical issues, all of my kids have had SOMETHING to deal with, but this has got my Mommy conscience going off a bit. H

My husband used to get this. Try a thin coating of vaseline inside the nose before bed. If you are using your air conditioner, (I don't remember where you live) that is probably what is drying things out.
I hope you find a solution soon!

      I'll second the vaseline suggestion.

        Bloody noses stopped

Thank you for the tips. I wanted to post something in case someone reads this later looking for answers. I asked my husband about the Vaseline and he was saying they discourage Vaseline or petroleum products in the nose because of some sort of pneumonia?! But I did find something that has been working. There is a new Baby Simply Saline nasal spray out that is like the old "Ayr" saline spray but wont get "contaminated" with germs everytime you squeeze it in the nose. So, this spray in combination with a saline gel after I adminster the spray at night has been working. It worked the first night. I was completely amazed. Anyway, if anyone runs into this dry bloody nose issue...Try the above formula!

My 7 year old has this....He also started developing sinus infections about two years ago...and the bloody noses sometimes got really gross. Everything at the pediatrician checked out ok...and dh got them as a boy too...so we're trying a humidifier in his room to see if it helps.

Definitely try this saline spray technique if you haven't yet. I had tried EVERYTHING....I am praying this is the miracle cure. The last time we were at the doctor. She said his nose looked "friable" and really irritated and that I should try this saline spray and getting an air purifier, which I haven't yet. But man, we have ruined like all of our pillow cases and sheets up until this point. It was getting really chronic and bad. He had a perpetual black scabby looking nose, poor kid.
