  • Baby sling

The baby really likes being carried all the time, and my back has had it! Unfortunately, she doesn't like the baby bjorn...so I was thinking of trying a baby sling. Has anyone had good/bad experiences with them? How comfortable are they?

I haven't really used one myself, but friends have used the Maya Wrap and the New Navite wrap and were happy.

Oh, and one called Hot Mama wrap comes in really cool fabrics.

I have heard great things about them. They're easy to make too.

Don't have the baby yet, but I did buy a Storch wrap. You could try looking at attachedtobaby.com or googling baby wearing...though that might be slightly overwhelming!

I did the sling with my second and it was fantastic. It is great for handling a baby on the go. For us, that meant maintaining the normal schedule I'd established in the city with a 2 year old. The sling was great for an on the go napping, nursing, and slightly-sick-needs-to-be-cuddled infant. I also used it in to toddlerhood as a hip carrier. Very comfortable and hands free.

I did not use it with my first and found it awkward with a newborn. He was in the Bjorn, but outgrew that quickly. Something must have happened to me before the second came along, because I slid her in to the old sling on day 3 and hardly ever took her out. It can also be a good blanket and works well for "transfers" because the baby can stay in the sling when you take them off and put them down to sleep somwhere.

            Clearly, I'm a fan.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I think I'll be shopping for a baby sling soon! Soooo many choices out there...

mom2three, thank you for the link...if I had your sewing skills and talents, I would make it myself -- unfortunately I don't.

I have a sling and LOVE it! I bought one from hotslings.com at the recommendation of someone on here. I had a posting about it, oh a year ago or so. The thing I love so much about the sling I bought- no rings, no bulkiness, and no hanging fabric to trip on. I had a "traditional" sling after my 2nd was born and hated it. I get so many comments and questions about my sling.

I was able to try it on when I was 9 months pregnant and had my 2 1/2 yr old, at the time, on my hip. My third, who I bought the hotsling for, loves sitting in it. I wear him in a hip carry. Oh my third is now 8 months old. The sling makes it easy to chase after the other two without destroying my back.

                Here's the link http://www.hotslings.com

                Good luck!

I've heard nothing but raves about the Moby (http://mobywrap.com) or you can make your own wrap, stretchy or not, sewn or not. (http://wearyourbaby.org/Default.aspx?tabid=89)

I purchased my sling from this site:

                    http://www.cortezandco.com/

You can pick the design/colors/style that you want, and I found their prices to be relatively affordable - slings can get to be very pricey! We also have a Bjorn, but as Jack got heavier it go to be killer on my back and I had to find something else. I love my sling for the same reasons everyone else mentioned (ease of use, comfort, use of both hands), and also because it's not bulky so I can just throw it in my purse if I think I might need it later. Couldn't do that with the Bjorn.

Thanks for the links, Crystal and Jane. Both sites had some great looking fabrics, but I ended up ordering from the cortez and co site just because it was more affordable...though if I could look like some of those 'moms' modeling the slings on the hotslings website, I might have chosen differently.

The sling came in the mail the other day, and I've also become a sling fan! The baby LOVES being in it, and it's so much easier on my back. In fact, she is in it now as I type, so I may be posting much more frequently.
