  • prego issues already?

my ankles were/are SO swollen today. SO swollen. Painfully so. I'm a little freaked out. My previous pregnancies had no swelling until the end and immediately after. I'm only 6 weeks! Has anyone else had this kind of swelling this early?

It's not particularly hot today, I didn't eat anything particularly salty, I've been drinking lots of water ... any ideas?

Put your feet up. Relax. Are your hands puffy? If the swelling does not go down, call your O.B. Put yourself on bedrest as much as possible.

I had just about every pregnancy symptom/problem there was, and even in early pregnancy, I got puffy ankles. Have Jigar check your blood pressure or check it when you are at the grocery store. If anything doesn't sit right, call your O.B.

Pregnancy sucks, but the kiddos are so cute.

I have not-so-small ankles anyway. When I was 18, a coworker came up to me in the office and asked me if I was preggers because she had noticed my ankles were swollen?! I said, NO, that's just how they are!

Well, yeah. My ankles are always huge -- but they were bigger than huge last night. Much better today (so far) & Quinn and I just got back from the mall. No pain, no noticeable swelling. My hands are not anymore swollen than usual here in the KS summer. I can still get my rings on / off. I feel crappy (I'm supposed to, I guess - but I'm getting a cold, too). I'm just going to chill on the couch until it's time to get Jacob from school.

            Thanks guys!

What has been your experience w/your immune system during pregnancy? I've heard both stories: your immune system gets depleted b/c of all the other stuff your body is doing, or conversely, your immune system is stronger to protect the baby. In my experience it seems to be the former. I've been known to get rashes that won't go away and have had lots of colds.

My immune system was definately better, i didn't get anything that winter not even a cold (we're not entitled to flu jabs at home, only the elderly or those will serious illnesses are allowed them) and i get the flu every year. not stomach bug either.

mind you i had hyperemesis so probably couldn't tell if i did or not However on the day before my due date i got the most horendous episode of sinus infection and middle ear infection with high temp, and prayed not to go into labor! I didn't for another 2 days, sinis problem was probably hormones changing and ended up with a bells palsy 20 mins before i went into labor.

My ankles swelled up at the very end. MAybe your body has just increased its fluid volume in preparation for the baby. hope it is something as simple as that. Hope you are feeling better

My immune system was pretty low during this pregnancy. The swelling didn't happen for me until this summer. It happens on and off now coinciding with blood pressure spikes. Are you prone to swelling outside of pregnancy? My first trimesters were also always in the winter so that may have something to do with a lack of swelling.

I agree, put your feet up! There will be times to come when you want to and can't.

holy monkey! the swelling has continued almost every day ... and gotten painful. i had my neighbor take my bp today (cardiac nurse) and it was 150 / 110! I called my OB (after hours, of course ) and he told me just to show up at 9AM.

'course, dh is NOT home to help w/the kiddos tonight.

I'm sorry to hear that the swelling has gotten worse. Ouch! Put the kids to bed early and kick your feet up!

Good luck at your appt. tomorrow!

Honestly - pretty darn crappy. And pretty darn sorry for myself that at 8PM my darling husband is STILL not home when he was paged at 5PM w/my current BP and concerns. I called him about 45 minutes ago and told him that he needed to leave - NOW - b/c I'm getting pretty scared, and he said he would but I still haven't seen him.

I've been talking w/Jacob about what to do in an emergency. You know, if Mommy won't wake up.
