  • Formula fed

After a lot of consideration I've decided to formula feed this baby. I'm still nursing him about once a day but I'm assuming this will gradually stop as my milk production wanes. Anyhow, does anybody have any advice of how to streamline this whole bottle, mixing forumula thing. So far, I mix up a bottle every time I need it--I've avoided making them in advance and storing them in the fridge because he likes them to be warmish. It's kind fo a pain in the middle of the night. I wasn't sure if those bottle warmers were very effective. Any tips?

There was a similar post that Kris started a month or two ago. I'm pretty sure it was in the Parenting Forum so you might want to search back for that.

We used a bottle warmer for the times when DS took breastmilk in a bottle. I think it was made by The First Years and was pretty inexpensive. It only took about 3-4 minutes to heat up bottles. The tricky part was putting in just the right amount of water. With the Dr. Brown's wide-neck bottles that we used, if we put too much water in the warmer the milk would leak out of the bottle. After a few tries, DH got the hang of it and we didn't have any more problems.

We have always supplemented formula with breastmilk. It worked fine. We warmed up the bottles everytime. I didn't use a bottlewarmer except for in the car (on trips) as I received one for a gift. I normally made the bottles right when they were going to be used which was usually away from home. I nursed at night though because it was easier, but if DH got up with the baby, he warmed up a bottle.

Bottle warmers seem like a good idea.

all three of mine were formlua babies and did great. for night time, i would make three or four 2-4oz bottles with just the powder. i would also bring with me a bottle of room temp bottled water. this way i could just get up, add water, shake and then have a happy baby. this worked well for all the babies. another thing i HIGHLY reccomend is playtex disposable bottle liners. they are so much easier....especially if you want to just toss the bottle on your dresser or whatever in the middle of the night. all you have to worry about cleaning is the nipple and ring. good luck!

Thank you for the suggestions. Tara, I think I'm going to try to get this guy used to cold formula. That would sure make my life a lot easier. If that doesn't work, I'll look into the bottle warmer. I'd love to make up a bunch of bottles and just take one out when I need them. When I make them now I use water straight from the tap, but maybe if I made up a bunch I might actually boil the water or something (or maybe not--I'm a little lazy )
