  • 5 month old son still gets up 2 to 3 times a night - Help!

I didn't realize how good I had it with my daughter. She was sleeping through the night, like 9 hours at time, at two months. My little boy, bless his heart, still gets up 2 to 3 times at night. Grrh. Is there anything I can do to help him sleep better? Or do I just have to wait until he's ready.

There have been a few nights where he's slept from like 9:00 to 5:30am, which I thought was great. I thought woohoo he finally might starting to sleep through the night, but then he goes back to having nights like last night where he was up at 12:00 am, 1:45 and 5:45. I'm exhausted.

DH, who is a pediatrician, gets on my case ALL of the time because our kids didn't sleep through the night by 2 months. He claims they had bad sleep hygiene because I chose to cosleep with the kids as babies. My rebuttle? I breastfed and if he cares to breastfeed in the middle of the night, by all means, feel free!

Anyway, we had to sleep train our 2 youngest, but didn't start until 8 months. Personally, I think 5 months is still too young to sleep train. Hang in there.

Yeah- my daughter got up 2 to 3 times a night until she was 18 months Now that she is 22 months, it is only once.

Sorry you are so tired. Sleep deprevation is a nasty nasty thing. I wish I had some advice, but obviously I am no expert on good sleeping kids.

Yeah - I was spoiled w/#1 - sleeping through the night by 2 months. DS#2 .... I think we can say he's sleeping through the night now (he turns 4 on Monday).

When I complained about Quinn's sleeping to my pediatrician at his 4 month visit she said "You were totally lucky and spoiled w/Jacob. Breastfed babies don't sleep through the night for a LONG time."

My first was a great sleeper, too. He really set me up! To be fair, though, he was the most active baby I have ever seen, so I guess he just wore himself out. My other two were not anywhere near sleeping through the night at five months. I have heard that boys tend to have a harder time sleeping through, esp. if they are breastfed.

Okay, I guess I shouldn't expect him to be sleeping through the night. I couldn't help it/hope after having such a good sleeper. Both of my children were/are breastfed.

I have a 13-month old that still gets up 2-3x/night.

I wish I knew the answer!

I think 5 months is probably too young for sleep training too by ds only recently started sleeping through the night with some sleep training after turning 1 yr old but now he is getting his 1 yr molars and we are back to waking 5-6xs a night. He is still bf too and that is the only thing that seems to calm him.

The only sleep training program that worked for us and gentler then crying it out is in the book Good Night, Sleep Tight by Kim West. We started it at 10 months though...it has been a life saver and something I could follow.
