A friend of mine from N. Ireland has 5 children who are all now grown. I met her when I was pg with Amanda....(and swore I'd never have 5 children like her ). She actually had used the harness at bedtime with her children. Seriously...I was having trouble just getting Andrew to stay in bed and asked her how she had done it when her 5 were little...she very calmly explained that she had just put the harnesses on them and....tied them to their beds. My eyes must have practically popped out of my head ...it turns out, she wasn't the only one during that time (again, her kids are all grown and out of the house now) to use that method and back then in N. Ireland it wasn't an unacceptable method.
None of her kids are on drugs....they all have college/technical school degrees or are working on them, etc...they are all ... good kids. Still...I can't help but think of that when I hear about the harnesses.
I had a leather harness from germany that I used for years until it broke in our buggy. When my 3 older children were little they could easily twist themselves out of the seatbelts and I was afraid that they would get hurt...so I put the harness on and attached it to the seat as extra protection.
I think the monkey/dog harnesses are a great idea. If someone is bothered by it, oh well! At least you're not using it to tie your kid to the bed Of course, you never know how our parenting methods will be viewed years from now.
